| Hello. Love you website of much interest to me as I served on various tugs from 1946 to 1948. Empire Ariel, Dexterous, Plumgarth and DanubeIV. My Granfather was a tugmaster on many of Tilbury Contracting & Dredging Co tugs from Lady Sybel to many of the Danube tugs from WW1 right through to about 1960 |

Hi there:
My Grandfather George Wilson, was a Cape Horner (originally from Scotland), sailing out of Cornwall during the copper trading, and then he ran tugs out of Swansea docks about 1920.He was known as Tug Wilson. He and his wife lived on Fuller's Row Swansea for many years. Would love to know more about him. Thank you for this interesting site. |

Just to let you know that John Oliver (of tug "Hobbit" from the Medway) is still living on his houseboat at Letley's Yard, Chatham.
Despite his disability and medical problems, he is as independent as ever, and he is now 82. |

Could spend all day browsing this wonderful site. My father Horace Kidd - best known as Horry - worked as an engineer for all his working life on the Gaselee tugs. My sister and I spent the day on his tug when Queen Elizabeth came home from her maiden voyage on the royal yacht Britannia. I was about 6 yrs old at the time. Dad always wore a black beret and was very good at telling us stories of his life on the Thames particularly during the war years. He spent a week in Wales with a crew member. He was very proud of his life on the boat.
I also remember attending the yearly dinner dances of Gaselees. |
